Dedicated internal Quality Control Center
Consistent QA model covering all projects and suppliers
Growing number of applications and lack of consistent QA standards
ABB’s IT delivery model relied on diverse project teams and multiple vendors. The absence of unified standards and testing processes made it difficult to supervise quality and enforce requirements toward external partners. As a result, the company faced increasing risks of delays and defects during application rollouts. ABB needed a consistent approach to testing that would cover both internally developed and vendor-delivered solutions.
The company chose to collaborate with Sii Poland due to the team’s expertise, access to modern technologies and tools, and partnerships with global technology leaders. Additionally, Sii employs more than 1 500 QA and testing engineers, 95% of whom hold ISTQB certifications confirming both theoretical and practical knowledge of software testing according to international standards.
QUALITY CONTROL CENTER BY SII
Sii Poland designed and built a dedicated Quality Control Center for ABB – an internal testing competency hub responsible for standardizing QA processes and delivering testing services for the Electrification business area.
The Center’s scope included:
- Test consulting – review of test strategies, processes, and documentation (test artifacts) across 12 projects, identification of gaps, and recommendations for improvement
- Manual testing – validation of business applications by QA engineers, during which over 500 defects were detected before production release
- Regression test automation – preparation and maintenance of over 6 000 automated scenarios for 26 applications, significantly shortening the time needed for repetitive release testing
- Performance testing – regular sessions for 19 client systems to measure application stability and scalability under high-load conditions
Quality under control on a global scale
By establishing a dedicated Quality Control Center, ABB gained full control over the quality of its IT systems globally. Testing evolved from a dispersed service into a centrally managed process with clearly defined standards and accountability. Introducing unified production entry criteria (quality gates) reduced the number of post-release defects, while regression automation significantly shortened preparation time for subsequent releases. As a result, ABB achieved a repeatable and scalable QA model.
