About the client
Leading publishing house in Norway, aiming to be at the forefront of technology and deliver innovative digital solutions for education.
The challenge
Gyldendal’s current content management and delivery system for all its digital education products is using a huge MS SQL database and it is implemented as a single monolith codebase. This makes the extendibility of the system harder. With the current solution, achieving Gyldendal’s goal to adopt upcoming education changes would be a difficult task.
What we did
Sii has been chosen to support Gyldendal’s backend transformation. An Agile team from Sii is building a brand new application, splitting the legacy platform’s monolith architecture into multiple microservices built on Service Fabric. Sii cooperates with Gyldendal to gain domain knowledge and negotiate the bounded context of each microservice. Besides the new codebase, Sii also delivers a well- organized documentation which covers the overall view and the crucial technical decisions with explications.
Effects
A cost-and-effect-conscious development effort lets Gyldendal respond to upcoming education changes. After a successful migration Gyldendal will have a well-documented new codebase written in accordance with the highest code standards.
