Handling sensitive data essential for DNA, RNA, and protein analysis, the company continuously invests in technologies that meet the highest standards of security and regulatory compliance.
As the organization expanded and the number of Atlassian users grew, Qiagen needed greater flexibility, scalability, and centralized management of its environment. As part of its broader IT modernization strategy, the company opted to migrate Jira and Confluence from Server to Cloud to fully leverage Atlassian’s capabilities and ensure consistent, secure data access for global teams.
The project also included integration with Azure DevOps and Bitbucket, standardization of user accounts, and alignment of processes with the company’s security policies. Sii Poland was selected as the partner for this initiative due to its proven experience delivering Atlassian solutions in regulated environments.
End-to-end migration from Atlassian Server to Cloud
Sii Poland carried out a comprehensive migration of Qiagen’s Atlassian environment – from analysis and planning to integrations, automation, and user training. All activities were performed in accordance with strict security requirements, ensuring full system availability throughout the entire migration process.
The scope of work included:
- migrating Jira and Confluence from Server to Atlassian Cloud
- integrating Bitbucket Server with Jira Cloud
- implementing validation processes and standardizing user accounts
- leveraging native Jira Cloud features and reducing dependency on external plugins
- deploying enhancements available in Jira/Confluence Premium plans
- automating the creation of Jira and Confluence backups
- integrating Azure DevOps with Jira Cloud
- migrating smaller instances into the primary Jira environment
- conducting training sessions and audits for users and Atlassian Cloud administrators
The project was delivered using an Agile approach, enabling continuous operational availability and iterative adaptation of the migration plan to meet the needs of Qiagen’s global user base.
Stability, security, and new capabilities with Atlassian Cloud
The migration to Atlassian Cloud provided Qiagen with a modern, secure, and fully integrated environment supporting global IT, R&D, and administrative teams. Thanks to Sii Poland’s best practices, the project was completed with no system downtime and full data integrity.
Backup automation and reducing the number of plugins significantly shortened maintenance time and simplified environment management. Integrating Jira Cloud with Azure DevOps and Bitbucket enabled consistent information flow between development, QA, and business teams.
The new Atlassian Cloud environment – equipped with premium capabilities and AI-powered tools – improved productivity, security, and transparency across the organization.
