Modernizing educational solutions in the mobile-first era
The Norwegian education market is undergoing rapid digital transformation. Schools and higher education institutions increasingly rely on mobile devices, while Flash-based technologies are no longer supported by modern browsers. This put Gyldendal at risk of losing users and limiting further development of its digital education portfolio.
To maintain its market-leading position and meet the expectations of institutional customers, Gyldendal decided to migrate its existing solutions to modern web technologies, ensuring mobile compatibility and long-term scalability.
The project was entrusted to Sii Poland – a partner with proven experience in education-sector projects and legacy system migrations.
Migration of the digital textbook platform to modern web technologies
To support Gyldendal’s transition from outdated technologies to current web standards, Sii Poland assembled a cross-functional delivery team consisting of architects, front-end developers, testers, and a Scrum Master.
The scope of work included:
- Migrating Flash-based components to JavaScript technologies using React, in line with mobile and browser requirements
- Adapting the user interface for tablets and other touch-enabled devices
- Preparing the platform for further development of new textbook versions, including editions dedicated to students
- Functional testing and quality assurance throughout the migration process
As a result, key content and functionality were successfully transferred to modern web technologies, ensuring maintainability and enabling further development in line with current industry standards.
A modern education platform ready for future innovation
The modernization enabled Gyldendal to continue developing its digital textbooks in an environment fully supported by modern browsers and mobile devices. The move to modern front-end technologies increased flexibility in designing new features and maintaining educational content.
With a refreshed and streamlined technology layer, Gyldendal is now well positioned to further evolve its digital solutions for both teachers and students.
