Before upgrading its platform used in daily operations, the leasing company required a complete overview of the existing environment and potential challenges related to migrating to a newer version of the system. It was crucial to understand what data and solutions had been accumulated on the platform, how users and business processes relied on its functionalities, and how the current configuration and performance could impact further development of the environment.
The company aimed to develop feasible migration scenarios and identify areas requiring adjustments to ensure that the entire process would proceed securely, in line with expectations, and within predictable parameters.
The project involving a comprehensive audit of the SharePoint environment was entrusted to experts from Sii Poland’s Microsoft 365 Competency Center (CC), which employs over 100 specialists and delivers analyses, migrations, and development of solutions based on SharePoint and other Microsoft technologies.
Three-level environment audit and preparation of migration scenarios
To enable a secure transition to a newer version of the system, Sii Poland experts conducted a full assessment of the existing SharePoint environment.
The scope of work covered three complementary areas:
Environment audit:
- Analysis of the existing SharePoint environment
- Review of data stored on the platform (type, structure, volume)
- Assessment of custom solutions implemented by the client
- Analysis of platform customizations
Functional audit:
- Analysis of the actual use of the platform by users
- Identification of business needs related to further system development
- Evaluation of custom solutions in terms of their migration feasibility
Migration audit:
- Analysis of environment configuration and performance
- Identification of risks associated with the migration process
- Analysis of requirements and needs for the new version of the environment
As a result, the client received complete documentation covering the current state of the platform, identified risks, and recommended migration scenarios.
Full visibility of the environment and informed migration planning
Thanks to the three-layer audit, the client gained a comprehensive understanding of the condition of its platform – from data and custom solutions, through actual tool usage, to configuration and performance aspects. The complete analysis enabled the organization to structure key areas relevant to the future upgrade and eliminate uncertainty regarding further system development.
Based on this foundation, realistic migration scenarios were developed, grounded in specific data, identified risks, and business needs. This allowed the client to consciously plan next steps and assess their impact on users and overall organizational operations. Early identification of potential threats made it possible to introduce risk mitigation actions and properly prepare the environment, ensuring that migration decisions were based on reliable information and full documentation.
