Rising reader expectations and the need for modern digital infrastructure
In today’s fast-moving media landscape, readers expect speed, availability, and frictionless subscriptions. For brands like Berlingske, BT, Euroinvestor, and Weekendavisen, any delay in page load or login failure directly impacts page views, session time, and revenue from ads and subscriptions.
The legacy Berlingske Media platforms were reaching their limits – websites couldn’t scale with growing traffic, the infrastructure slowed down feature delivery, and the existing CMS and subscription tools could no longer support a digital-first strategy. With user numbers rising, accelerating website performance, streamlining identity management, and improving the subscription model became business-critical.
At the same time, editorial teams needed tools to publish content faster and create interactive formats like games and simulations that drive reader engagement and loyalty. The old tech stack simply couldn’t support rapid development of such features.
To address these challenges, the management team launched a comprehensive modernization of its digital platforms and editorial tools. The project was entrusted to Sii Poland – a long-term technology partner with a team of 900+ web and mobile experts and deep experience delivering solutions based on AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform.
Modernized websites and new editorial tools
As a long-time partner, Sii Poland took responsibility for developing and maintaining key components of Berlingske Media’s digital ecosystem. A dedicated team of 21 experts (developers, QA engineers, DevOps) was assigned to the project, working closely with Berlingske’s analysts and Product Owners across four specialized teams:
- CloudOps – cloud operations, in a hybrid model with client experts
- Content – development and maintenance of editorial tools
- MarTech – identity, user management, and subscriptions
- Sites – website performance and feature delivery
Scope of work included:
- Implementation of a centralized Identity Management (IDM) system for millions of user accounts
- Integration with Piano for flexible subscription management
- Migration of CMS to Dr Publish, improving editorial workflow
- Launch of Liveblog for real-time coverage
- Implementation of DrEdition, reducing operational costs
The entire transformation was delivered in a continuous development model, combining feature delivery, environment monitoring, and flexible support for new initiatives.
Better user experience and growth in digital revenue
The platform modernization enabled Berlingske Media to launch new features faster, shape subscription offers with greater flexibility, and publish content in real time. The improved platform enhanced user experience, automated parts of the editorial process, and allowed the company to focus on ad revenue growth while reducing maintenance costs.
A partnership that drives competitive edge in digital media
Berlingske Media’s decade-long partnership with Sii Poland has supported its transformation from a traditional publisher to a digital-first business. The collaboration is built on a long-term relationship with flexible roles, enabling fast responses to business needs and efficient delivery of new digital initiatives.
„The flexibility of the Sii team is outstanding. Thanks to low turnover and exceptional domain knowledge, we’re able to maintain a high standard of work and respond quickly to the fast-changing media world.” – Pernille Louise Jansen, CIO Berlingske Media
