Engineers from Sii carry out IT projects for PUMA – from designer’s vision to shop shelves thanks to product lifecycle management system
PUMA is one of the world’s leading sports brands, designing, developing, selling and marketing footwear, apparel and accessories. For 70 years, PUMA has been producing the most innovative products for the fastest athletes on the planet. Headquartered in Herzogenaurach, Germany, PUMA distributes its products in more than 120 countries.
Sii has become PUMA’s partner in February 2014. The very initial interest of PUMA was related to Sii expertise in execution of custom development projects within the Java programming language and Vaadin framework specifically. Today, the online solution created by Sii supports users in ordering tooling (molds) required for shoe production as well as tracking related investments and amortization.
Following the first delivered project, Sii became a partner actively engaged in other PUMA IT initiatives, delegating its personnel to work within Business Intelligence, retail or internal business supporting applications.
After more than three years of cooperation Sii was offered to take on the critical business project related to custom development of new product lifecycle management system.
The aim of the project was to come up with fully new rules and processes-based system for the whole range of PUMA products (footwear, apparel, accessories) designed in the newest, top-notch technologies. The system would allow Developers, Designers and Product Managers to work on their ideas from the vague concept, through the prototype right up the final, signed off product. It will support them in making, design, pricing and technological decisions.
With this step PUMA expects to improve its product engine flexibility and enhance time-to-market of their products. The system is designed for worldwide usage. The project required from Sii setting up a team of more than 30 experts to address the roadmap aiming till 2019.
With both parties looking for a long-term cooperation, PUMA emphasizes the fact to have found with Sii a partner to quickly and effectively set up dedicated project teams to take on new PUMA driven IT initiatives or address project peaks.
– Crucial for us is that Sii can provide high-expertise project teams within a relatively short time. Their engineers are experts in their respective fields and contribute valuable, goal-oriented input and a vast experience to our projects – says Kurt Walther, Senior Head of Global IT at PUMA. – The proximity to Sii’s headquarters in Poland is also a benefit for PUMA. Whenever necessary, we can quickly set up face-to-face meetings at our offices in Herzogenaurach to create an even stronger interaction between PUMA and Sii’s project teams – adds Walther.
– Sii takes great pride in working with PUMA, the brand supporting the fastest athletes in the world. Not only we were given a possibility to contribute to a global success of the brand but also found a partner with exiting projects in terms of business domain and technology stack, that bring a lot of satisfaction to our employees – says Grzegorz Brzostowski, Business Unit Director at Sii.
Today, more than 50 Sii engineers take part in all PUMA related processes covering projects executed in different technology stacks from JAVA, through .NET to SharePoint and Microsoft Business Intelligence technologies.
Most of Sii assignments are about to provide comprehensive cross-functional teams to cover the full project scope from business requirements detailing through architecture design, development, testing, implementation and maintenance. In some highly specific areas, Sii provides dedicated technical teams to work hand in hand with PUMA’s internal staff to enhance existing IT capacities to both address project peaks as well as support projects within the whole roadmap.
– We are hoping for long term cooperation and are committed to help PUMA to become the fastest and most innovation company within the sector, not only in the business meaning but also as an IT organization – concludes Brzostowski.
